Dr. Bruce E. Douglas, Executive Director
Bruce E. Douglas, Ph.D. has been a Connecticut educator for almost 40 years. He was appointed executive director of the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) in 2001, previously serving as the agency's assistant executive director. Dr. Douglas has been a teacher, administrator, assistant superintendent and superintendent in Connecticut public school districts. Dr. Douglas is dedicated to serving the best interest of children, families and communities in Connecticut's capital region. Since 1998, he has orchestrated the development of 19 magnet schools in Greater Hartford that now enroll almost 5,000 students. In his role as executive director of CREC, he has fostered a spirit of collaboration, partnership and capacity-building among educational and civic institutions that will perpetuate the student achievement renaissance in Connecticut.
Dr. Douglas initiated the development of the Capitol Region Interdistrict Leadership Academy in 2004 and since then has taught and inspired all eleven cohorts of CRILA's young leaders. Dr. Douglas participates in the Colorado Outward Bound trip annually and provides guidance, support, and inspiration to the CRILA coordination team.

Thomas Brodnitzki, CRILA Leadership Curriculum Coordinator
Thomas Brodnitzki is Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator for CREC Schools. Previously, he served as Assistant Principal of CREC's Medical Professions and Teacher Preparation Academy and as social studies teacher at the Metropolitan Learning Center in Bloomfield. Thomas Brodnitzki describes himself more as a "facilitator of student learning" than a teacher. Mr. Brodnitzki designs the challenging leadership curriculum for CRILA, including identifying literature selections, coordinating guest speakers, and facilitating student assignments such as CRILA's culminating and collaborative service learning project. Mr. Brodnitzki began working with CRILA in the spring of 2010.
Julia Winer, CRILA Program Manager
Julia Winer is the Assistant Director of Communications and Coordinator of Legislative Affairs for CREC. As CRILA Program Manager, Julia is responsible for operations, including coordinating the Colorado Outward Bound trip, managing recruitment of new students, organizing meeting schedules, coordinating program details, and ensuring grant compliance. Julia began working with CRILA in the fall of 2010.
